App Privacy Policy

What this policy covers

This page describes the True North Prep mobile app, distributed on Google Play and the App Store. The website privacy policy is a separate document and describes truenorthprep.ca only — the website uses analytics and cookies, and the app uses neither. Nothing on that page applies here.

Data we collect: none

The app collects no personal information and no device information. To be specific, it does not collect or transmit:

• your name, email address, or any other contact detail;
• any device or advertising identifier, IP address, or approximate or precise location;
• usage analytics, event logs, or crash reports; or
• your practice answers, scores, or anything else you do in it.

There is no account and no sign-in, because there is nothing to sign in to: True North Prep has no backend. The app does not request study content over the network — every question, answer and study guide is bundled into the app itself and read from the device. You can use the whole app in airplane mode.

Third-party services: none

The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising or ad-network SDK, no crash reporter, and no attribution or marketing SDK. No third-party service receives data from it.

Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager run on the website only. Neither is present in the app, and neither is anything like them.

What the app stores on your device

The app saves your work locally so it is still there next time you open it. That is:

• your practice results and best scores;
• questions you have bookmarked;
• badges you have unlocked;
• a display name, if you choose to enter one;
• a daily reminder time, if you turn the reminder on;
• where you got to in a quiz you have not finished; and
• your theme, text size and language preferences, and the fact that you have acknowledged the app's disclaimer.

All of it is written to the app's own private storage on your device. None of it is transmitted to us or to anyone else — we have no server that could receive it — and none of it is synced to a cloud account of ours.

On Android the app turns off Android's own backup flag, so it is excluded from automatic cloud backup. Note that on Android 12 and later the effect of that setting varies by manufacturer, and it does not disable device-to-device transfer when you set up a new phone. Anything copied that way is handled by Google and your device maker under their own terms, not by us — we never see it.

Deleting your data

Reset progress, in the app's Profile tab, erases your saved scores, your streak, your badges and any quiz you left part-finished. It deliberately keeps your bookmarks and your display name, and the app says so before you confirm.

Uninstalling the app removes everything it has stored, bookmarks and preferences included. That is the complete erase; Reset progress is the partial one.

There is no deletion request to make and no form to fill in, because we hold nothing: your data never leaves your device, so removing it there removes all of it. For the same reason, the account-deletion requirement that applies to apps with sign-in does not apply here — there is no account.

Permissions and notifications

The app asks for one permission, and only when you ask it to: if you turn on the daily study reminder, it requests permission to send notifications. Decline it, or leave the reminder off, and the app works exactly as it otherwise would.

The reminder is a local notification, scheduled by your own device at the time you picked. No push token is created, no remote notification is ever sent, and no notification-related data reaches us or any third party.

Children's privacy

The app is intended for a general audience preparing for the Canadian Citizenship Test and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, so it collects none from children either.

Donations

True North Prepis free, with no ads and nothing to buy. If you choose to support it, the app opens the donation page on our website in your device's browser — it does not take payment inside the app. That page links out to a checkout hosted by Stripe, so your payment details are handled by Stripe under Stripe's own privacy policy. Neither the app nor our website ever sees, stores or transmits them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
